Dr. Michael K. Badawy holds a Ph.D. with honors from New York University Stern Graduate School of Business. He was educated and trained under Professors W. Edwards Deming and Peter F. Drucker. Professor Drucker also served as his doctoral dissertation advisor.

Dr. Badawy is Global Professor of management of technology and strategic management. He has an internationally-recognized record of professional credentials and accomplishments in teaching, research, and professional service. This record includes an extensive publication of over 250-articles in scholarly and professional journals, 28-authored or edited books, 158 professional presentations at conferences, 65 international distinctions and recognitions, 162 awards-based activities; honors; and other scholarly contributions, and 48 offices held and leadership service roles in world-wide professional organizations. Many of his publications were translated to Japanese, Spanish, Korean, and Chinese.

Dr. Badawy is a renowned authority on the management of technological innovation, engineering, technology, and R&D management. His teaching, research, and writing focus on executive leadership, corporate innovation and competitive advantage, strategic management of technology, intellectual capital and knowledge management, managerial skill development, project and program organization and management, technology transfer, cross-functional integration, global issues facing management in the digital knowledge economy, executive leadership for achieving competitive advantage and enhancing corporate productivity and profitability, entrepreneurial leadership, R&D management, and other business and global management-related issues.

Dr. Badawy pioneering work in the field of innovation and technology management was exemplified in establishing Journal of Engineering and Technology Management (JET-M) in 1989- an international scholarly refereed research journal published by Elsevier Science Publishers in the Netherlands- he is serving as JET-M founding Editor-in-Chief. He continued his pioneering work by spearheading an initiative that took two years to accomplish; resulting in the establishment of a new division: "Technology and Innovation Management Division"-now is the third largest division in the Academy of Management. He was later nationally elected to serve as the Division Chair. He was also invited to serve on a select Ten Members Taskforce at the National Science Foundation to develop the first National Research Agenda for Management of Technology in the U.S.

Further, he also served as the founding Editor-in-Chief for two book series on technology and innovation management for McGraw-Hill and John Wiley Publishers. His book Developing Managerial Skills in Engineers and Scientists, Wiley, 2 nd edition was selected by the IEEE for candidates preparing for the IEEE Engineering Certification examination; and was also translated to Japanese, Spanish, Korean, and Chinese. His article Technology Management Education: Alternative Models published in California Management Review was reprinted in several publications providing a road map for international graduate curricula in the technology management discipline.

He is serving and has served in numerous leadership positions at national and international professional organizations. These include instrumental roles and memberships of the National Academy of Management, Japan International Forum on Technology and R&D Management, European Research Management Association, The International Association for Management of Technology, The Industrial Research Institute, The Chinese National Academy of Science, The IEEE Society of Engineering Management, International Society for Operations Research and Management Science, Japan Society of Science Policy and Research Management, the Government of Korea Industrial Technology Association, Japan Union of Scientists and Engineers, and the Government of Spain International Organization of Technology Management.

His service includes major Boards of Directors' memberships, committee assignments, national conferences and program chairs, national division chairs, and major presentations before the Academy of Management Board of Governors. In addition, he served as Chair of the Management Education and Development Division, the Academy of Management . He is the recipient of numerous distinguished leadership and outstanding teaching awards. He was voted by the Inaugural EMBA cohort for the Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award from among a total of 28 professors teaching in the program.

Dr. Badawy organized and chaired an "All-Academy Show Case Session" at the Annual National Academy of Management conference entitled "How Can Business Schools Do well by Doing Good? An Action Agenda for Refocusing Management Education" . It was the only session chosen by the Academy National Program Committee to be webcast Live globally - (click for audio& more info) a first in the Academy's 70-year history. Out of 5,556 submissions, the conference accepted 1700. The Academy membership of 18,000 represents more than 100 countries of every business school of note on the planet.

He is frequently invited to participate in major research and professional undertakings. This includes a "six-member national board" to author the Fiftieth Golden Anniversary issue of Research and Technology Management. This year, he was invited by the Board of Editors of The Industrial Research Institute -- the most prestigious international corporate R&D Consortium in engineering and Science in the globe -- to write one of two leading papers for the 65 th Anniversary Issue of Research and Technology Management. In addition, he also received the Korea Medal of Honor presented in a joint ceremony by the Korea Industrial Technology Association (KITA) and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

Dr. Badawy's work has been featured in the Best of Business magazine, Forbes, Engineering Times, The Wall Street Journal, Journal of Japan's Union of Scientists and Engineers (Tokyo), The Madrid Daily Times Dispatch (Spain), The Plain dealer, The Korea Daily Newspaper in Seoul, The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, Inside R&D, and the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD ) publications.
